He knew she was broken
when she stared into her desolate eyes–
a stranded island with
a lonely palm tree
as her only companion.
such a pretty girl–
he tried to put the pieces back together
the puzzle too intricate and twisted
to finish over night.
Day after day,
he would visit her,
arms full of flowers and pictures–
pictures of happy things, like sunlight–
children laughing–
like a wilted flower,
she needed that sun, that positivity,
to help her grow,
Because she was left neglected.
…
months went by
and nothing had changed,
Tossing and turning every night,
Her sallow face a imprint
In his mind-
But then he realized what he must do!
Instead of tangible gifts
He gave her his humanity-
He poured his heart out
And showed her his scars-told
Every story behind them,
And let her hold him tight.
He told her that he understands pain too
And they will overcome it soon-
Together, as friends, as lovers-
And that’s when she blossomed before his eyes-
