NOLA trip~New Orleans May 2018

NOLA was an amazing experience! I went for Memorial Day Weekend and I must say, it was eye-opening.

I love the culture the music, the food, the people-they were so kind and proud to be from New Orleans.

The shops in the French Quarter were so eccentric and quaint! I love all the vintage finds, jewelry, and the artwork . I definitely spent more $$$ than I should because everything was so stylish. There were so many art galleries to walk through and museums!

There were also so many restaurants-from grab-and-go, to the most artful finds, and to the classiest halls. A lot of weddings were going around during the time I was there and the restaurant had manyyyy rooms to hold all the people.

The one thing that surprised me the most was the people are allowed to walk around and drink. And people are allowed to drink and drive-but without a straw!

Bottomless Mimosas Time!

Food (I am still full)

Beignets from Cafe du Monde

I of course had to stop at Cafe du Monde to try it out! it was a huge tourist attraction because the lines were ridiculous. I know a lot of celebrities praise the beignets from here but I have to admit, I tried them from another restaurant and they tasted similar. Don’t get me wrong-they were amazing. Light, sugary goodness. I did not feel heavy after eating this and they did not skimpy on the powdered sugar.

So I was at first terrified about trying alligator but I did not regret it. The bartender at Felix’s recommended it blackened instead of fried and I have to admit-it tasted like chicken. It was a little more chewier than chicken but still had the same texture. Would I eat it again? Sure. Am I in a rush to eat it? No. I also tried oysters for the first time….Woooooo I was not prepared-that’s all I have to say.

So Brennan’s was amazing-apparently so amazing you have to reserve days in advance. The rooms were colorful and so calming. Below I have a video of the crepes being made.

I got french toast with berries, my friend got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was so seasoned and so good I wanted to cry.

The crepes down there were superb!

Po-Boy’s are my new favorite thing. I need one for every meal. The gumbo was…wow. I am not really into seafood but that gumbo changed my mind.

Places

The sun/sky was amazing. I am used to the humidity-I am from new Jersey but it was hot all the time. Even at night. It was not that bad-you can always duck into a store or bar to avoid the heat.

I loved all the occult/eccentric stores.
