#Anti-Swooning 2016

I read the Tiger Curse Saga in High School and thought it was amazing, but after reading this nonsense, I might have to revisit the series. I have had read countless reviews of Houck’s previous works and am ashamed I have no noticed the overt racism and complete ignorance of cultures.

I am not an expert on Egyptian cultural but I can tell off the bat she either googled some stuff or just made it up. She also makes her white characters Lily and Kelsey logical, right, the hero–that without her, the ignorant foreign, exotic people could not function without her.

Everything is just too good to be true–is the whole theme throughout and it us nauseating. Like OMG Lily just happens to be named Lily aka the Egyptian symbol for rebirth, she who happens to be rich and happens to have obvious parents who do not notice her traveling with a stranger, Amun is hot and a great belly-dancer, and I could go on with this ridiculousness.

Also, I AM TIRED OF TEEN GIRLS SWOONING OVER HALF-NAKED GUYS! Like have these girls not walked by Hollister ever? Or been to the beach without SWOONING? Maybe it is because I am 21 but it is completely unoriginal and redundant. Some YA authors are very creative when introducing a romantic interest and I could stomach the silly stuff but I had to literally put my kindle down when Lily could not stop passing out over Amun’s chest.

I like to read YA novels because they are fun but if this trend of these silly-swooning-never-seen-pectorals- before-omg-he-is-so-hot I might have to give up on the genre.

Overall,
