[Why did you never look me in the eyes
when you hurt me?
Was it because when you did,
you saw yourself through me?
did you tremble? did the image of you,
monstrous and ugly, keep you up at night?
did you cry when you broke me;
did you keep the shattered remains
of my heart? how does it feel to be ruthless?
did you rejoice when you broke me in like a horse?
you sat so calmly when i cried. you patted my back
so awkwardly, so distantly, so uncaring…
you saw beauty and instead of letting me grow
you held me back, refused to watch me glow]
