Threads vs. Twitter

Threads vs. Twitter? Do we really need another social media platform from Meta, or can they work on making Instagram not a constant feed of paid ads and sponsored posts from celebrities? I like the other 70 million users who joined Threads this week and were surprised to see that the platform looked extremely similar to Twitter.

A live feed where you can see other users’ posts, but this time, I can see the posts from people I follow on Instagram. So all the celebrities, influencers, and people I went to high school with, I can see their thoughts. I’m not sure if I like that – haha.

Searchability, where art thou?

But one thing I noticed is the lack of searchability – aka – you can only search for other accounts but no hashtags or trending keywords. For example, let’s say Lebron James is playing a basketball game (as you can tell, my knowledge of basketball is TERRIBLE), on Twitter, users would be reacting and talking about it so much it would become viral, and you can search “Lebron James” and find tweets on the related subject. But with Threads, you cannot search for topics or terms – just people.

Questions I have for Threads

  • As a social media manager managing a brand or company, how can I search for users discussing my product or company?
  • How can I use social listening or monitoring effectively on this app?
  • Will there be paid ads in the future? And if so, will it be a similar structure and centre to Meta?
  • Will there be integrations that enable and encourage “communities”?
  • What are the top things social media managers should know when creating social media strategies?

What are your thoughts on Threads? Have you logged on?

    1. 🙂 totally get it! Threads is interesting so far but I’m still waiting to see how it will defer from Twitter. It’s like having the same app on my phone lol

100% Meta is really trying take over — they will probably try to make something similar to Tik Tok next.
