Eve’s Arrogance

A fuzzy mind and heavy tongue
Lulling lullabies with a somber tone,
Drowsy eyes and fevered skin-
A wandering girl, stumbling along,
Knees scratched as she descends
A slight pause-
As she catches her ragged, ragged breath.
A face that is never remembered,
Trails behind with a predators ease-
The hunt is an opiate, a cureless crime
That stains the teeth crimson and black-
The mark of a criminal
With nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Pain is a reminder and heartbreak is
The sting of broken words and
The waves of euphoria that drag you under-
A dagger-teethed beauty with malicious intent-
Why must we,
As perfect creatures that swagger around
With slouched backs
And puckered lips,
Constantly tread through the strife
Of the accepted ideal that all we do
Is for naught?
Each day, each night
Is suppose to be precious, savory
And sublime as we lick the rim
Of the decomposing ozone layer-
But why can we not be immortal?
Hardened hearts and babies
With skin tough as stone and eyes
Too old and wise,
Dry wells and motherless groans will
Inevitably follow as we crawl and scurry.
I will sanction for our race as we
Frolic in our own waste, smearing feces
On your blemished skin, gnawing on bleached cadavers, and lick our grubby fingers 99,9% clean,
But will it be worth it? The arrogance of eve will always linger
And will never be forgotten
As apples fall from trees, with a sensual ease
And the crisp, wet fruit
Sullying our lips with
An unredeemable sin.
